Online Live Auction DiscoveryOver the last week we have fielded a ton of questions from our charity heroes about how they can move their auction ONLINE and also keep some of the LIVE aspects of their event, namely the live auction and the appeal. In this post, we will cover how you can use some online software to do this.
Over the next few weeks we will be conducting a number of webinars on how to move your auction online and create a Virtual Gala. Our first one of these is Thursday March 19.
Read on for what we have learned.
Live Streaming vs. Conferencing Tools
We have been investigating a number of solutions that range from conferencing tools (Zoom, GotoMeeting, WebEx, etc.) to live streaming solutions (Facebook Live and YouTube Live). Conferencing apps have less latency (delay) but they require much more work for end-users to join. Live streaming is much easier (your guests will just go to your Facebook or YouTube page to watch) but there is a bit of a delay. However, we do not think the delay is all that bad and it is a suitable tradeoff to having your guests struggle with conferencing software.
The next thing we looked for was a way to combine multiple feeds into a single live stream. Afterall, we are all supposed to be in isolation, so it is not likely that the auction hosts (you) will be able to gather in one spot. There were a few out there we played around with, but the one we like the best is Be.Live. We found it the easiest to setup and use.
To show you how you could conduct a stream of your Live auction and Appeal, we created this demo for you that we did LIVE on Facebook. You can checkout that demo here:
If you have any questions about Be.live or how to do this online, be sure to attend one of our webinars on Moving your Auction Online. Also, feel free to reach out to us and we can do a demo for you on how to use this software with Handbid.
